The MCW Starz organization offers competitive girls and boys elite AAU teams, camps, clinics, college recruit counseling and community service. Our core principles are based on teamwork, developing a positive self-image, good sportsmanship, respect, unity, loyalty, leadership and managing adversity. We aim to develop life skills and potential on and off the court by identifying strengths and weaknesses and developing a strategic plan for each participant. We value communication with each participants’ support system or the opportunity to create one. By pursuing excellence in sports, MCW Starz strives to make a difference in the lives of all the athletes as well as in the community.
OUR FAMILY
Mandy Carter-Zegarowski graduated from Salem State College with a degree in communications. She began her coaching career 20 years ago as an instructor of youth clinics at the Hamilton Recreation Center. Mandy went on to coach the JV Girls’ Basketball team at Hamilton Wenham High School before being appointed the Girl’s Varsity Basketball Coach at Ipswich High School. During her tenure at Ipswich, Mandy led the Tigers to ten straight state tournament appearances. The Lady Tigers won the league title seven times under Mandy’s direction. A four time CAL Coach of the Year winner, she was also named the Massachusetts North Coach of the year. Most recently, Mandy founded A-Z Sports Management, LLC, a managing and consulting company for professional athletes and businesses. She has also established MCW Starz LLC., a comprehensive basketball program evolving out of Mass Hoop Elite. Mandy has consulted many families through college recruiting processes and provided parents and student athletes with the information needed to make an informed college placement decision.
Zach Zegarowski is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. A scholarship basketball player, Zach was recruited by Stan VanGundy to play hoops for the River Hawks. After graduating from UMass, Zach joined his High school basketball coach at Charlestown High School as a teacher and coach. Working with Head Coach Jack O’Brien, Zach coached basketball and JV baseball. Together they won five state basketball titles and successfully facilitated placement for over 30 student-athletes into college. Their commitment to these student-athletes changed lives and created opportunities. Zach went on to become the assistant coach for the Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School Boys’ Varsity Basketball team. In his first year as coach, the Generals’ won the league title. Zach is currently managing and training his son, Michael Carter-Williams, in the NBA.
In 2002, Zach and Mandy founded Mass Hoop Elite, a comprehensive AAU basketball program. Mass Hoop Elite offered camps and training clinics, provided individual workout sessions, aided in player recruitment and development through the AAU program. The goal of Mass Elite was to provide players with an opportunity to develop their basketball skills by identifying their strengths and weaknesses. What began as a family passion (their four children, Michael, Masey, Marcus and Max participated in the camps, clinics, workouts and AAU teams of Mass Elite) has grown into a new family business, MCW Starz.
After guiding their son Michael Carter-Williams through his high school career, aiding him through the rigors of college recruitment and play at Syracuse and transitioning him into his now very successful professional career, Zach and Mandy are excited to grow MCW Starz. Their energy is focused on building MCW Starz and with managing the career of Michael, the 2014 NBA Rookie of the Year.
