SPRING/SUMMER TEAMS

Our Spring/Summer Teams are for girls committed to playing competitive and disciplined basketball through twice-weekly structured practices and challenging summer tournament play. MCW Starz develops basketball skills and teaches the game while educating players on the importance of physical and mental fitness. We strive to build lifelong relationships with teammates and coaches, and a lifelong love of sports.

The Spring/Summer Program starts in March and ends in July. All practices take place in the Burlington High School gym.

High School Spring/Summer Program Includes:

  • Two 90–120-minute practices per week
  • 9th, 10th and 11th grades practice skill development drills together, then separate for team practice work
  • Experienced coaches with a history of playing the game
  • 1:10 (or smaller) player-to-coach ratio, with additional interns supporting coaches throughout the season
  • 5 NCAA live period certified recruitment tournaments (players responsible for travel cost)
  • 1–3 additional tournaments, local and/or travel (players responsible for travel cost)
  • 1–3 teams per grade, with players from all levels going on to play in college
  • 9–10 players per team for appropriate playing time and player development
  • Player placement where they are both challenged and can develop confidence, as well as obtain ample playing time to be seen by college coaches
  • Emphasis beyond a particular skill set, so players learn to “read and react” at all times
  • Complementary or sponsored New Balance gear to select teams, including a backpack, two pairs of sneakers, home and away uniforms, a shooting jersey and a sweatsuit (same gear available to all teams for purchase)
  • Education and tools to assist with the mental aspect of the game, including journaling and reading and discussing sports- and team-related books
  • Inspiring lifelong athletes by teaching the power of yoga and the mind-body connection, proper activation stretching before and after workouts and games, and how to correctly prepare and recover the body after any sport
  • SportsRecruits membership for all players to create a profile for college recruiting
  • Parent/guardian informational meeting to discuss the pros and cons of playing college basketball and an overview of the college recruitment process
  • Direct communication between MCW Starz and college coaches regarding tournament location, game times and player overviews to inform college coaches of the opportunity to watch potential recruits in action
  • Responding to all college coaches’ outreaches
